Johneen Wood discusses her work.

These sculptural pieces are constructed by combinations of slab and coil methods from Keane's Special K sculptural clay and finished with a variety of glazes and firing techniques. The white effect is achieved by combining a shiny crackled glaze, of the Japanese tradition, with a dry glaze applied over a dark manganese wash. The bronze and gold glazes are created by varying combinations of manganese wash. The bronze and gold glazes are created by varying combinations of manganese dioxide, copper oxide and different frits. The black pieces are fired in an atmosphere of heavy reduction. Materials are added which on combustion result in carbon impregnation of the clay.
